Hello Everyone,

Just a quick note from the Apple store at the Danbury Mall... I will be turning in grades for this class on Monday morning. It's always fun to photogragh water, especially when you have great scenery, shadows creatures to capture. For me I haven't been too adventerous, so the first is a shot from inside my hot tub!! the second is a wish I made in a well at Mohegan Sun :)

I love this image with the small animal in the corner as the shadows and sharp lines are crossing the figure. I also love it because you're not sure what to focus on, the door, or the strange animal beside it. As for me, my eye goes straight to the door.

hey all, sorry im a little late on this one, but ive had a horrible time trying to fix my internet connection.. anyway, i used my girlfriend as my suject, in our living room in her favorite chair. it was a sunday morning, so she was still in her PJ's, but she absolutely insisted to have at least a little make up on... women! anyway, she was a fantastic subject, and i think some of these came out pretty good!

This to me is confusion. Things all over the place. A hand coming out of a glass trying to catch a butterfly with the what I call a swirl of trying to make it clouds disguising it. A clock inside of a ball. A submarine in the air instead of the water. Then at the bottom everything comes crashing down.

For some reason I couldn't edit the flash on my camera, and the pictures were coming out too bright, so this is one of the only pictures where you can actually see the shadow of a still image...I liked it because you can see the side of his face perfectly, even his eyelashes and cheeks.

How to Save your Surreal Image For Posting

Hi Everyone,

We are in the final week now for the class and we arrive at the final (and fun) assignment. This is about constructed imaging not photographed. It is fun and easy using the Atheneum's Painter Java application. Review the material in the syllabus... Links are there to the application as well as to some short readings to set the stage. The only slightly tricky part is how to get the image from the Atheneum site into your computer for posting to Fotothing and one or two to the blog. Here is a rundown again on how to do it:

After you create your masterpiece, (you can pull it up on the Atheneum site as it is saved there under the title that you named it) you press the print screen button on your keyboard. Every PC has this button. On my keyboard it is next to the F12 button... yours may be elsewhere.

This puts the whole image of the computer screen into the computer's memory.

Now open up the paint program on your computer (again every Windows machine has this) START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>PAINT

Click Edit>Paste... The program will say the image is bigger than the current image "expand?" Click yes.

Now use the rectangle select tool next to the star in the upper left of the Paint program and click and drag around the image from the Atheneum.

Click edit>copy

Click File>New

Click Edit>Paste

Now you have just your picture. save it as a .jpg file and put it in a folder where you can find it. The image will be a .bmp and you will be unable to upload it to the blog or to Fotothing unless you now save it as a .jpg file.

Now you can upload it to your Fotothing account and one or two to the blog.

An amazing portrait

I was driving into work this morning thinking about our past weeks assignment and I was running through my mind what is the most powerful portrait I can recall. I was thinking of soldiers and you can see the resolve in thier faces. I though of leaders and the confidence they ooze. What I kept coming back to is this portrait of a young Afghan girl. I'm sure most of us have seen it before, but for those who have not---look at her eyes. Breathtaking.

I was having some problems with my macro, and a lot of the shots that looked really good on the preview screen on my camera turned out blurry.. I guess I just have abnormally shaky hands (getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled the other dayI'm sure didnt help...) Anyway, these are the best I could come up with.

I tried to use a technique from every class, reflection, shadow & light with the ring photo. I edited the photo to emphasize the gold tone of the ring and to show the scale. I was approximately 2 inches away from the object. The other 2 shots, I was fortunate enough to find a ladybug this late in the year. With a little editing, I did get a really clear shot.
